Are you REALLY HAPPY

3rd Point will definitely blow your mind.

Recently a client came to me and complaint that she is not happy in life. We had a long discussion about her life experiences and surprisingly I found that she have the best of everything in life. I asked her again the question “Why do you think that you are UNHAPPY?". Her response was "I don't know. Everyone tells I have everything needed, but still I am not happy.“

To be very true this client is not the first person who complaint me this. This is in general very common. This made me think about the core reason behind this UNHAPPINESS. Here are my general recommendations to resolve such feeling:

There are commonly three reasons which is affecting our HAPPINESS:

  1. Social Media

  2. Being Over Focused Towards Materialistic World

  3. Some Specific Harmon Related Deficiency

Let me now share each and every point one by one:

Social media is a wonderful platform to connect with the world. I got chance to connect with my childhood friends due to social media. But it also comes with its own disadvantage. It builds unrealistic expectations within you.

When you scroll through any social media platform then you see happy faces, people enjoying their holidays abroad, you see some of the romantic photographs between husband & wife etc.

In a nutshell, people show you their best moments on social media. Looking at the same you start feeling that everyone is enjoying so much in life. Their life is really happening and yours is too dull. This develops a sense of sadness which in long run converts into depression.

You never realise the problems these people are facing. My point is, no one has a perfect life. Challenges are common in everyone’s life. But social media shows us only the good part of someone’s life and not the other part which affects your psychology.

Real Life Example: Recently I was working with a couple who are experiencing major challenges in their relationship and are on the verge of divorce. Suddenly I saw a picture posted by the lady over social media where both of them are holding each other hand and some amazing romantic statement was written by her. Looking at this someone might feel that my partner doesn’t do such gesture. My question is do you really know what’s the scene behind?

It is rightly said in economics that wants are never ending. Once your current want is satisfied it will be taken over by another one.

In spite of knowing this fact we fail to understand how to handle this. Ideally once a want is satisfied, take a pause, have attitude of gratitude for your achievement. Enjoy the achievement and then move on.

Only with attitude of gratitude, this general unhappiness can be overcome.

There are four hormones which determine human's happiness - Endorphins, Dopamine, Serotonin, and Oxytocin. It is important we understand these hormones, as we need all four of them to stay happy.

Let's look at the first hormone the Endorphins. When you exercise, the body releases Endorphins. This hormone helps your body cope with the pain of exercising. You then enjoy exercising because these Endorphins will make you happy. Laughter is another good way of generating Endorphins. You need to spend 30 minutes exercising every day, read or watch funny stuff to get your day's dose of Endorphins.

The second hormone is Dopamine. In your journey of life, you accomplish many little and big tasks, it releases various levels of Dopamine. When you get appreciated for your work at the office or at home, you feel accomplished and good, that is because it releases Dopamine. This also explains why most housewives are unhappy since they rarely get acknowledged or appreciated for their work. Once, you join work, buy a car, a house, the latest gadgets, a new house so forth. In each instance, it releases Dopamine and you become happy. Now, do you realize why you become happy when you shop?

The third hormone Serotonin is released when you act in a way that benefits others. When you transcend yourself and give back to others or to nature or to the society, it releases Serotonin. Even, providing useful information on the internet like writing information blogs, answering people's questions on social media will generate Serotonin. That is because you will use your precious time to help other people via your answers or articles.

I got my dose of serotonin by contributing towards up lift of the less privileged in the society. Since last 12+ years I am getting my dose of serotonin by being a part of a NGO. You might be interested to have a look at their work:

The final hormone is Oxytocin, is released when you become close to other human beings. When you hug your friends or family Oxytocin is released. The "Jhadhoo Ki Jhappi" from Munnabhai does really work. Similarly, when you shake hands or put your arms around someone's shoulders, various amounts of Oxytocin is released. Now, you can understand why you need to hug a child who has a bad mood.

So, it is simple:

  1. Restrict your social media usage. Remind yourself that you have got amazing moments in life and there is nothing called a “PERFECT LIFE”

  2. Practice Attitude of Gratitude

  3. Exercise every day for 30 mins

  4. Laugh everyday as much as possible

  5. Appreciate yourself & others for even small achievements

  6. Do some charity

  7. Help others in any manner

  8. Hug your kids, friends, and families

When we are happy, we can deal with our challenges and problems better.

I am sure these simple yet powerful points can change your life and from now onwards you know how you can be HAPPY always.

Wishing you happiness always smiley
